Monogamy
Monogamy is a partnership between two people who are committed to making love and/or having sex with each other exclusively. This state of "mono" (one-ness) rests on the notion that one partner can fulfill all emotional, intellectual, and physical needs over a long period of time. This romantic ideal may pale over time, depending on the couple's on-going efforts to meet each other's needs. Vows of monogamy are a key element of nearly all church sanctioned marriages.

| The body may abandon what is committed in the mind! Married partners have the most reason and opportunity to be faithful to each other but it doesn't always go that way. Being married used to be synonymous with monogamy, but not now. A conservative estimate is that 60% of men and 40% of women will have an extramarital affair during the course of their marriage. This most likely is because they have lost the appreciation for each other that brought them together in the first place. Sacred sexual practices that require deep commitment and trust, fantasy play, and role reversals can enhance a long-term monogamous relationship and keep the vitality strong in (and out of) the bedroom. |
