Lubrication
A liquid, gel or oil used to make body parts slippery during sex. Lube reduces friction between moving body parts. The body normally provides fluids for intercourse: Pre-come for men (clear, sticky drops from the tip of the penis that can contain miniscule amounts of semen) and vaginal secretions (a creamy, very slick substance) for women. For numerous reasons, extra lubrication may be needed for vaginal intercourse, and is considered essential for comfortable and safe anal play. Water-based lubes are much healthier for vaginas, since oil based lubes hang around internally, providing bacteria a comfy, filmy bed to reproduce in. Water-based lubes are the only kind to use with latex condoms. Polyurethane condoms and oil-based lubes are slickest in the close-fit of anal intercourse (but remember they will not offer full protection from HIV). If you're not put off by the idea, high-tech silicone lubes are safe with latex and polyurethane and are the best choice for water-play (shower sex, hot tubs, etc.). However, they may require additional application during intercourse as well as extra soap and scrubbing during post-coital cleanup.

| Old rule of thumb with lube is start with a little, then add a bit more as needed. Too much lube is sloppy and takes away from all that fun friction. It's good to warm the stuff in hot water before use too! Drop the bottle into a bowl of hot water at your bedside. Have extra fun with flavored lubes and gels, which can make the idea of "eating out" your partner an adventure. Start with a really clean body, and squirt a little strawberry colada (or whatever) on your honey's hole. Your finger can trace the clit and vaginal opening or penis and testicles, over the perineum to the anus and back again. Once you're both really comfortable, follow the same path with your tongue, lightly licking your partner into a blissfully receptive state.
