Fuck
Fuck is extremely versatile as a noun, a verb, an adjective, an adverb, and more. All variations of the word are considered offensive and are commonly banned from polite conversation. Fuck defines the sex act quite succinctly, still its use has been universally forbidden in many cultures for at least 1,000 years. The Saxon words foken, ficken (in German) and fokken (in Old Dutch) all mean “to beat against". Due to the absolute ban of the word from conversation, and its exclusion from public use, fuck has been embued with an uncommon power whether it is uttered or written. Even today "fuck" will garner an "R" rating if used in a film, and it is censored from any program broadcast on network television or radio. Perhaps it is this ban which has caused a proliferation in its use in more recent times. To “fuck” is shorthand for “having sexual intercourse”. To repel another person, say “fuck you!” or “fuck off!”. To “get fucked up” is to get drunk, stoned or assaulted, and end up worse off than before. The use of “fuck me!” is common as an exclamation of surprise or as an apology for an ill-fated action, as in, “Sorry, I fucked-up!”. Fuck can also mean "to be taken advantage of", as in “we got fucked over” or to be incredibly attracted to someone who is “fuckable.” You can be a “fucker” or a “fuckee,” but never call anyone a “motherfucker.” Statistically, this variation of fuck illicits the most violent response the world over.

| Fuck is a very important word. If you can use it freely, good for you! When we were very young we owned our own thoughts and expressions. As we grew up, we were told “never say that word.” If you agree not to say it, you will win approval and connection but lose complete ownership of your own thoughts - forever. For if there is even ONE word you are not free to say, then you are not truly free at all. Do not let anyone pitch a censor’s tent in your mind. Speak freely, show due respect when it’s given to you, and use the words that are the most expressive of your truth. Sometimes the word that most pushes back is the only word that will do.
