Erotica
Erotica is anything designed to evoke sensual or sexual feelings in the viewer (or listener). Poetry or prose, like that of famed writer Anais Nin, clearly defines classic erotica, and is more emotionally and psychologically complex than say, a mile-high club Penthouse letter. The line between erotica and porn can be difficult to draw. Both are presented to conjure arousal in the viewer/reader, it seems to be the intention in the act that draws censure or praise. Drawings and paintings of nude people doing sexual acts are erotic art, while the same acts and positions would likely be pornographic if photographed with live humans. Eroticism, whatever its medium, by definition layers a veil of mystery and artfulness over that which pornography displays with glee.

| Good erotica collections are easy to find online or in any bookstore. If you are a serious explorer of your own sexual nature, start a collection now! Poetry, prose and pictures make a fine tool for both self-pleasuring and for learning more about what makes your partner tick. You can peruse the stories or pictures and pick your favorites. Ask your partner to do the same, then try to guess which are a turn-on, and why. You'll learn the unspoken inner territory of your partner's psychological makeup, and hopefully, get turned on in the process. Reading aloud to your lover and looking at pictures can be an arousing form of foreplay. For those who are really adventurous, try your own hand at writing out a fantasy, then read it aloud to your lover or mail it in an envelope with mysterious instructions for acting out the story later that day. |
